Strike an Interest in ASL. You Can be a Light to Both the Deaf and Hearing Worlds.

ASMLT's Origins

Summer of '97, I was sitting in the cafeteria of the college where I taught English, talking with Peter, a student.  Peter expressed some interest in writing a paper dealing with some aspect of the deaf world, and as the assignment required a persuasive topic with some action readers could actually take on the topic, we brainstormed and came up with the ASMLT.

We talked about how our society has made many advances and regulations to assist fellow people with many disabilities, including adding braille to signs, installing ramps and lifts for wheelchairs, widening doors, etc., but few steps had been taken to make our world more comfortable and accessable to the deaf.
