As much as anything else, the purpose of life is to learn. We humans are virtual learning machines. Constantly observing but not, sadly, continually improving. Education comes in two main ways, formal and informal, and can be invaluable. Truth truly does set you free--in more ways than you've likely ever even considered.

you can also learn the wrong lessons and it's important to have an open mind and unlearn the wrong lessons, replacing them with more effective understandings.

Formal Education:
follows models, some effective, some less, usually depending on the situation, the learner and the teacher. discuss weaknesses and strengths. discuss the best ways to work within the system as well as times when it may be appropriate to go outside, fight or ignore it.

I read this book before teaching my first college course (I've been teaching 7 years now) and it's still the most interesting, informative, helpful book on teaching I've ever come across. Many fascinating insights that any teacher would benefit from and enjoy.

Informal Education:
what you see all around. what you acquire without even realizing it. here's where we pick up lots of wrong lessons.
