Are you a Hottie?
by Shaun Roundy

Nothing feels quite as good as knowing deep inside that you are a Hottie. Being a Hottie offers confidence, peace, joy and most all the other blessings you need to get you through this mortal life. We highly, highly, highly recommend that you do everything in your power become one.

Just watch out for the downfalls, which all have to do with Hottie imitations. Nothing leads to greater disappointment, discouragement, pain, suffering, frustration and ultimate failure than falling for one of those old tricks.

Just because you never sang Jesus Wants Me for a Hottie in Primary doesn’t mean it’s not true. It is! He does! Want proof? Turn to Revelations 3:17 where He says it Himself.

"I would that ye were hot…."

"Would" is the past tense of "will" which used to mean "want." Of course that verse continues on and makes other points, but they don’t negate the fact that Jesus wants you for a Hottie.

Of course you have to understand that Jesus has His own definition of "Hottie." That’s what this book is all about. By the time you finish reading, I hope you’ll be singing along with me "I’ll be a Hottie for Him!"

Hottie vs. Haughty

One of the best ways to understand something is to learn what it is not.

Being a Hottie has nothing to do with being a Haughty. They do share a few basic similarities, but after those, they turn out to be entirely different things.

The most obvious similarity is that you pronounce both words the same.

The most important similarity is that Hotties and Haughties are both looking for the same thing! They both want to feel good about themselves and enjoy life.

They just go about seeking these rewards in vastly different ways, and that makes all the difference in the universe.

What is a Haughty?

Haughty comes from the same Latin root as the word "high." It describes the kind of person who thinks they’re above others. Better than others.

This kind of person is concerned with status and prestige. Their sense of self worth is derived from others’ opinions of them. If they can get others to value them, then it’s easier to value themselves.

Can you see the dangers of letting others dictate your value as a person?

A haughty person is often secretly afraid of not being good enough for others to like them. A Haughty finds a false sense of security in having more money, nicer clothes, better looks, better grades, better anything.

In order to maintain their status "above" other people, Haughties often try to put others down. How can they think this makes them more lovable? How can they believe that people admire them because they’re "better" than someone else? The only people who really buy into these beliefs are the ones caught up playing the same destructive game.

Games People Play

Haughties like to set up the game of life on their own terms. By looking down their noses at other people, they try to make those people feel inferior. If they succeed, and if others pick up on these same attitudes, then they have established momentum.

One the Haughties establish momentum, it gets hard to ignore. It gets hard to move against the current of the peer pressure. And if no one notices how this damnable game works, then everyone simply accepts the rules as the norm. Have you ever caught yourself, even though you know better, wishing you had a nicer car or nicer clothes so you could fit in better and be liked more by your peers? That's exactly what I'm talking about.

What is a Hottie?

A Hottie may be just as pretty or handsome, just as popular, as talented, wealthy, intelligent or successful as any Haughty. These outward traits don’t determine which side of the fence you fall on.

In fact, a Hottie will likely become even more good looking and popular because being good on the inside has a big impact on how you look on the outside. And Heavenly Father always blesses you in different ways when you obey Him, sometimes with talents, sometimes with success, and always with a clearer understanding and increased happiness.

The important thing that makes you a Hottie is that you exercise whatever faith you have and try to do what you know is right.

The result is that you gain the Spirit, which makes you peaceful, stronger, and lights a fire of joy within your heart that nothing can extinguish. As you learn to love others more fully, they will love you more in return. As you come to understand that joy truly is the purpose of our existence, others will find your company pleasant. As you practice bridling your passions and controlling your appetites, your confidence with soar before God and your fellow beings.

[[[scripture outtakes: 3N spirit makes gentiles powerful, dc 121 confidence before God]]]

All these things describe the essence of being a Hottie. It’s the only sure way to succeed and find permanent happiness in life and into eternity. Any other path leads to certain disappintment.

Judge Not

Don’t get carried away judging others. Just because you may easily recognize someone you know as a Haughty shouldn’t give you any personal satisfaction or fill you with righteous indignation. If you find such feelings in your heart, try to replace them with love and forgiving or you run the risk of becoming a Haughty (or other Hottie imitations which we’ll discuss later) yourself.

Besides, you can’t easily read someone else’s heart. It’s easy to misunderstand someone’s true intentions, particularly if they do happen to be better looking or more popular than you or anything else that might make you jealous. And you never know if a person acts like a Haughty just because they got caught up in the game that others set in motion a long time ago. They probably have no idea what is really going on, and given a chance, they would probably choose to be a Hottie instead.

For now, why not simply work to improve yourself. This happens to be one of the most admirable and liberating of all Hottie traits.

Let me know if you'd really like to see this whole thing finished...
