Obedience

Here's a simple way to look at life and the gospel: you only have two choices.

You can choose joy and peace (God's way) or misery (Satan's way). If you will study the scriptures and keep the commandments, you'll find happiness even through your trials. If you choose otherwise, you choose misery. Why would you do that?
