Why is Religion Taboo?

Just as Amway has scarred the name of multi-level marketing forever, so religious "discussions" have been forever denegrated by those who take religion "logically" and think they can prove their views with Biblical backing.

But it doesn't have to stay this way. Here are a few simple keys:

Of course being "right" is important in some ways, it may have significant impact on another person's salvation. But if that person is not truly open to considering your point of view, your "proofs" may more likely drive them further from your point of view and close down communication channels, right? If this is the case, use your brain and your heart and quit arguing--hopefully not something your take on religion encourages. Why do most multi-religious discussions seem to focus on dogma rather than the participants helping to encourage one another?

The "core" of the gospel is faith, hope, and charity--and everything that follows: obedience (a result of faith), service (a result of charity), etc. Don't we all have that in common?

History has more than proven that logic alone has a difficult time proving the facts, so why do so many still cling to that as their sole or primary evidence? Why not follow divine guidance and use prayer and a humble heart and let God guide you a little? You do believe He can do that, don't you? (If you don't, I and a billion other people promise you it's true.) Because the important part of conversion concerns the heart, we were meant to use it in our search for truth.
