What are Students' Responsibilities?
Before reading this list, consider that we are all students in the University of
Life. These responsibilities apply to everyone.
- Learn! Keep your mind active! Keep inquiring and observing. Keep an
open mind, learn critical thinking skills.
- Improve yourself and your world! Education should accomplish far more
than securing you with a high paying job! If that's all you wanted and got out of it, then
you are failing regardless of your GPA typed on your transcript. Want a hint at one way to
set and reach goals? Write pages.
- Help others learn and succeed. It's true that much of our formal and
real-life educational system fosters competition rather than cooperation, but please do
what you can to change this. When one person wins, everyone should win. There should
always be spillover benefits to progress. If our society was built on more cooperation (at
least among those willing to work), progress everyone could enjoy would come along much
more quickly.
- Think critically. Keep your mind open.
Don't fear new information or perspectives. Seek the truth and understanding in all
matters. Listen more. Don't take your opinions too seriously, don't confuse your ideas
with your identity.
- Balance your life a little. Find some time to relax. Get enough sleep.
Eat something healthy. Have a healthy social life. Have a healthy spiritual life.
- Read. For pleasure or learning outside of your class subjects. Of
course sometimes you don't have time, but don't let those boring textbooks make you hate
reading forever!
