Values
Get what you want from life

A little-known rule about life is: You Get What You Want.

You don't get what you wish for--that's different. If you really, truly, all-the-way-down-inside want and value something, you'll think about it and how to get it. You'll take opportunities that arise. You'll not be stopped by fear or indecision.

You can all sit around wishing you were better looking, had more money, more friends, more...something.  But when you truly want something, you quit sitting around and get out and do something about it.   You can't help it. You're driven to it. That's the way desire works.

Even just telling someone you want it can open doors you thought were locked to you.  So if you've been living without a clear idea of what your values and desires are, it's high time to figure that out. And if you already know what you want, it's time to make those desires grow. That's how you control what you get from life. Following are a few ways to increase your desire and a few pitfalls to avoid.

Values are more than just those lofty ideals you pay lip service to. If you say you value your health but eat twinkies and soda three time a week for lunch, you're kidding yourself. Your actions are the best way to show what you truly value.

Now that you know this, you have a choice: will you change your actions or accept what they are telling you about your current values?

Awareness and Education are two of the most powerful tools you can use to form your values and change your life.

Use the University of Life Book Club to find in-depth analyses and examples of many values, including:

Fear
Courage

Apathy
Awareness
Passion
Put together a scrap book of photos you tear from magazines and catalogues that represent what you really want. Look this over regularly and let yourself feel how much you want that. Feel excited about them as if you already had them. Don't be discouraged, many things take time.
As your desire grows, let them translate into action. Figure out what it takes to succeed. Talk to friends or counsellors. Develop a step by step plan. When you want it bad enough, small steps grow easier and easier until you couldn't stop yourself if you tried. Pages are also an excellent way to make this happen.
