Healthy Thinking Habits
will change your destiny
What's destiny, anyway?
Isn't it just the designation of where you'll eventually wind up? Well what really
determines that? Your actions, of course, more than anything else (we're focussing here on
things you can control). What determines your actions? Your thoughts and values. What determines your thoughts and values? Well, now, that depends.
What determines your thoughts and values?
Your thoughts and values (and thus, your destiny and the whole path of your life in
between) will be decided by two things:
- Chance and Fate: you can let your present and future be entirely determined by the tv you watch, what your peers say about you, and the way
you feel now and then. In other words, you become Pavlov's dog, a behavioristic result of
conditioning.
- You Decide. That's right, you can choose what to think of
yourself and your world. If you do, and if you base that decision on your own
observations or choices concerning what you want to become, your
chances of becoming that and having a happy life (hopefully you choose things that will
help bring happiness) increase dramatically.
Healthy Thinking Habits
So how do you do all that? How do you take your life into your own hands? It's
easy. Just think (then act).
- Take note of what you most love about life, your passions, and about what you least
like.
- Investigate them. You can do this while you ride the bus or sit in your back yard
or anywhere at all (be careful driving, though).
- Concentrate. Our society encourages short attention spans. Conditioning has been working
against you up till now, but if you will practice holding one thought, keeping to one line
of reasoning, your powers of concentration will increase, it will become easier and more
effective, and you'll take control of your life, little by little.
- Write pages. This can help you discipline your mind
and stick to one train of thought.
- Remain flexible. Keep an open mind--open to new information. This is the best way to
always be right.
