Peer Review Fest Details
Some classes want 2 PRF's next week, which will be held Monday and Wednesday in the cafeteria as usual (and Tuesday in class).

  1. You may bring treats one of the days for the usual points.
  2. For the Monday PRF, attach a good outline of your paper (minimum 4 page paper) for an extra 5 points (you must also review at least 2 papers this day to earn these points).
  3. For the Wednesday PRF, if you have at least 7 pages (yes, double spaced) done, collect an extra 5 points (you must also read at least 2 papers this day for these points).
  4. If your class voted for only one PRF, do both of those on the same day (we'll decide which day Friday in class).
  5. When reviewing papers, please watch for anything that's not bombproof (logos, pathos, ethos) and mark it. Offering suggestions is the extra mile.
  6. And how about this: since some of you do an OUTSTANDING job of reviewing, let's reward you. Step One: If you make lots of helpful comments on a paper, put your first initial and last name or last name and section (13, 30, 40 or 26). Step Two: If someone makes lots of helpful comments on your paper, tell me their initial/name/section whatever on the roll Friday.
  7. Please pick up your papers after PRF since there's not much time afterward, but I will bring any left overs to class next time.

Got Late Papers?
Turn them in! I'll make it so there's a maximum number of points lost for being late, and if they're really good I'll be extra generous, and if you have a terrific sob story, that can't hurt, either. Also, showing the dedication to turn things in even if late reflects well on your dedication which could reflect well on final grade close calls, which could reflect well on...well, you get the idea.

Persuasive Paper Deadline Extension Option
The paper's due next Friday (it had to come eventually) but if you want to turn it in Monday with no penalty, just make sure it fits the following criteria. If it doesn't, I'll assume you wanted to use the one-day late option (15 points per day late).

  • Bombproof Logos, Pathos and Ethos (read the text if you missed w/h/f class)
  • Action Purpose and Audience clear by the first half page (unless you're intentionally doing one of those sneaky things where readers don't find out right away, but that had better be justified).
  • Relatively effective at persuasion.
  • Implements values effectively.
  • Clear organization.
  • Overcomes barriers effectively - and develops them if they weren't already well developed elsewhere already.
  • Fits the assignment, including the required sources.
  • VERY FEW TYPOS! That gets all caps because MANY of your papers have had a plethora of typos! It didn't hurt your grade much then because that's not what those papers were focusing on, but with this paper I need to make sure you're adequately aware of these.
  • Not too many be verbs.
  • Remember: 8 pages means 8 *full* pages or darn close to it, not 7.3.

There. Any paper should strive for all those things anyway.

Commentary: Multi Skill
Many of you did an outstanding job on your multi skill papers!! They looked awesome and had some very good writing (even sometimes when they didn't necessarily implement the skills being graded for). You wrote several lines I actually wish I had written. Thanks for the effort and I hope you're proud of & pleased with what you've learned.
