Pathos

100: Bombproof. Paper is interesting to read. Depending on level of formality, style contributes appropriately to an enjoyable reading experience. Topic is applied effectively to readers’ interests, including values. Pathos contributes to overall persuasive purpose.

75: Good. Not boring or at least not distracting from purpose. At least a hint of values and/or concretes and some awareness of audience demonstrated.

50: Very dry and hard to get through. Too many be verbs. Some minor spots may detract from purpose.

25: Pretty bad. Distracting or frustrating or something.

35: Good. The paper is well established though author’s presence doesn’t impact it much.

20: Author’s attitudes, sloppiness, etc. detract from purpose.

0: Readers despise author and/or become uncooperative.

Persuasive

50: Paper clearly succeeds in its purpose for its intended audience. Personal action purpose clear and strong case made.

30: Fairly persuasive. Clear action purpose and readers will agree, but not necessarily be moved to action due to lack of application, development, or overcoming barriers.

15: Unlikely readers will be moved to action. They will probably agree with the overall idea, but either disagree or have doubts regarding some points or barriers. Or not even know they were seriously expected to do something.
