A Little Star

Mama always said I am the captain of my life. The captain will take me wherever I want to go. Mama said I would be a queen, if I so wished everyday. Mama also said there would be a lot of candies under my pillow if I dreamed about it every night.

Growing up as a child, I was the little darling in my neighborhood. Everyone liked to tease me, hug me, and kiss me on the cheek. And I enjoyed being liked by everybody. I remember there was a pretty young lady living next door and I loved staying at her home. She was a music teacher with slim build, attractive eyes, and waist-length black hair. I always thought she had the most beautiful smile in the world. I always sat beside her on the long piano chair and listened to her playing the piano and singing songs. I loved looking at her fingers flying over the keys like a butterfly and her body moving with the music like ripples of the river. "When I grew up, I’d like to be a musician just like her," I said to myself. A dream, like a seed was then planted in my mind. It was the beginning of my life time dream: To be on the center stage as a performing artist.

Mama told me once I planted a seed, little angels would always help me to make it grow. When I was around five years old, I started to demonstrate talent in music. Believe it or not, I could sing a song after just listening to it a couple of times. At the same time, I could create some steps to dance to with music. I jumped and swung like young Charleston. People were impressed by me, including my parents. However, to me it was so simple and effortless. After I started grade school, I participated in several extracurricular activities. I was on the dance team, drama team, and chorus. I wanted to fulfill my dream, to be on the center stage and perform. I felt I could take the world by storm.
