Music has affected peoples attitude since the day it was discovered, both positively and negatively. I will give you some examples and facts to try and get you to make the switch. People will say "music doesn’t effect my attitude I can listen to what ever I want and be under control."

A few years ago at an AC/DC concert the crowd rushed the stage and trampled 3 people to their death and injuring another 11. Rage against the machine averaged 3 stabbing per concert in 97. Now tell me, have you ever heard of someone getting stabbed at a Yanni concert? Now your saying "yeah right, I’m going to stab someone because I listen to heavy metal." Well now imagine yourself driving on a busy road in the middle of rush hour listing to Metallica, and someone cuts you off. How easy is it to curse at them? Now you listening to the song Don’t worry be Happy and the same thing happens to you. I bet you would react a lot differently. I challenge you to do an experiment and listen to these different kinds of music. Be honest with yourself then ask, how do I feel when I listen to these different kinds of music.

Combine these things with atmosphere and the mood you were already in, and this can have a huge positive or negative result. Fast beat heavy metal, rap with disgusting lyrics, and senseless screaming and yelling can lead to nothing good at all.

It seems like every other week you hear about a rock star dying because of a drug overdose or killing them selves. Take Kurt Cobain for example. He was the lead singer of Nirvana, a hard rock band that specialized in screaming meaningless garbage. He blew his head off with a shotgun. You can go back as far as Jimmy Hendrix or Jim Morrison of The Doors if you want, or most recently the lead singer of INXS who’s big hits include "Devil inside" and "Elegantly Wasted." You hear of rappers who go to jail for drugs and violence etc. People like "2 Pac" and "Notorious B.I.G." being shot. If their music and lyrics didn’t play a role I don’t know what did.

There is evil music and there is good music. Half the time you can tell just by looking at the album cover. Try looking at Iron Maiden’s album covers. They have an album called Killers with a guy holding a bloody axe. Marylin Manson’s new album is called Antichrist Superstar. Music greatly affects your attitude and the way you behave. It’s up to you to choose music that will help you, not hurt you.

How often do you catch yourself singing a song that is stuck in your head that you don’t even like? Or have the words memorized of a song you’ve only heard a few times. This is because music can be memorized by your subconscious with out your conscious mind ever knowing it. Not only that, but you will never forget it, not as long as you live. Think about it, how many of you can still sing the old Coke or McDonald’s commercials, or have that annoying Shane Company diamonds commercial stuck in your head. Have you ever been riding in your car with a grandparent and a song comes on, they sing it, then they say "gosh I haven’t heard that song in 40 years." That’s because your mind remembers music. I stores it forever. This is why we must be careful.

Knowing that we have the right to choose good and evil, the lord has given us a sort of armor, the scriptures and teaching of Jesus, righteousness and faith. The apostle Paul said "We must put on the entire armor of god in order to with stand the tempting’s of Satan." We might not fight physically, but we fight against principles and powers and rulers of the darkness of earth, against evil music, movies, literature etc. Modern day apostles and prophets in our church continue to tell us to where this armor of righteousness as well. They remind us to keep it on at all times and to recruit others to were the armor too.
